Guest Appearance!!
Yo! This was a very beautiful article, i read recently in The Hindu. Reading every word of the article was like reading my own mind and you bet the title, which i just stole :P and the flow is awesome.
There was one quote in the article, which I beg to differ.
"The first day a man is a guest; the second a burden and third a pest"
This is not very true in all cases. The entire process depends upon the type of guests we have. I can bear kids as guests to a certain extent, unless and until they are cute kids and not irritating monsters! I greatly welcome guests of my age; I mean my elder cousins and friends! And elderly guests are fine until they are young at minds. But as there is always a disgusting other side of the same coin, some guests are a real pain in the neck!
There was one guest recently, a couple whose daughter is working in the US of A. They had come to invite us for their 'House-Warming Ceremony'. When the doorbell rang, I instantly jumped off and opened the door. Opening meant not just opening but also greeting them with a smile and a "Hello Aunty! Hello Uncle". They came in and sat. Everything went on perfectly fine till a glass of juice! After that they had their own story running about their daughter, grandson and the lifestyle there.
It then drifted to the topic of “bhindis” (yup! I wasn’t having one :P) He just started talking about how culture has changed youth, especially girls, a lot! He didn’t want any of his words to be opposed, he was pretty adamant!
Its only at these circumstances, I’d feel, guests at our place are under our control and they just can’t talk whatever they feel.
That person after every sentence of his would say, “I am very open, I’d talk out whatever I feel!” hahaha. And would tell me about that being one of the most important quality of a journalist. I would shake my head up and down, decorated with one of the most artificially cooked smile and an “Exactly!” This is just one example, there are lots and lots like this, which have slipped off my memory!
I like guests who are concerned about us. And who really have come traveling a long way, to meet us. I’d love to spend my time in their company. There are some people who literally come to boast their own trumpets and boss over us like anything!
Being hospitable is a two-way process. It depends on both the Guest and the Host!
If guests are turning pests, I bet hosts are turning ghosts!
Altogether, this culture of having and being ‘guests’ is going to face deterioration if people’s way of looking at things doesn’t change!
one other funny quote from the same article:D
"An ideal guest room does not have guest in it":P
